This Friday: 5-7pm Burnaby Lake West - Field #2
Reminder: this Friday is the last odd day out for the season, we're at Burnaby Lake Sports Complex West - Field #2. It is one of the turf fields in the complex closest to where Nathan's Grill used to be, farthest north (e.g. not right beside 8-Rinks) but one of the original 3 fields that was built. There's plenty of parking. Park, walk towards the club house (upper level) and it's the field on your right (walking away from the club house).
Everyone still welcome. Last time we were here we got a really good turnout, but a very different turnout from the regulars at Burnaby North. Hopefully we'll be up to two full games again.
Don't worry if you haven't been out yet, or if you haven't registered yet (because no one else has yet either).
P.S. If you want to play on Friday but this time/location doesn't work for you, check out the Surrey portion of the AHGCUG under the next heading.
This Saturday: Art Hawkins Great Canadian Ultimate Game 7:30-9pm Burnaby Lake West - Field #2
So this Saturday we're participating in the AHGCUG 2012, this is year 3 of the event, and our first year participating. This year there are 28 communities participating in the charity event all across the country, resulting in a 28 hour Ultimate game! Once again this year it's the Red team vs the White team (so bring both colours). The game is free to play, but you're welcome to make a donation should you choose, last year they raised ~$8,000. Tax receipts can be issued for donations of $20 or more.
All donations go to charity, with the winning team (Red or White) getting 60% and the other charity receiving 40% of the donations. The Red team will be representing Ultimate Peace while the White team will be representing the Boys & Girls Club of Canada.
Logistics: we have the field at Burnaby Lake West starting at 7:30pm, we'll set up and get started right at 8:00pm, taking the score from Prince George. We get to play until 8:58pm at which point we pass the score on to the North Shore. If you're feeling crazy, there are some people who are planning on following the game from Burnaby to the North Shore and then to Vancouver. If you're really keen you could event hit the game in Surrey on Friday night.

As a note for some of the non-regulars who might join us, dogs are not permitted inside the field fence at Burnaby Lake Sports Complex West.
Also there's a Facebook event for the Burnaby portion which you can use to invite people if you want: https://www.facebook.com/events/327473540664293/
There are an increasing number of parents who play in BUDS, so these questions are targeted specifically at them:
- Would having childcare (e.g. a on site babysitter) make it so that you would be more likely to play Ultimate?
- Would it influence whether you played alone or whether your spouse/partner/other appropriate term could play with you?
- If the idea is something that you like, what ages are your children and would they require any special level of supervision?
- If the idea is something that you like, would you be willing to pay a fee to have your children watched while you play (either on a seasonal basis or on a per night/per child basis)?
This is an idea we've floated before, but at the time there wasn't enough interest (or maybe enough parents) to make it feasible. Given that some nights there are enough kids that if they were a little older they could make their own team, it seemed as though it would be appropriate to revisit.

Photos from Friday 08 Jun 2012 on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/burnabyultimate
If you haven't liked us on Facebook, you won't know that I've posted pictures from last Friday's games to Facebook. There's 187 of the posted at the moment. I haven't tagged anyone in them, but feel free to do so yourself if you're so inclined. If you're in any of the photos and would prefer that they not appear on Facebook, let me know and I'll remove the relevant photos.

BUDS on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/burnabyultimate
If you're on Facebook and haven't liked Burnaby Ultimate & Disc Sports yet you might want to do so, it's often a faster way to get information. Also, you'll find updates about Ultimate in Canada, tournaments and other things which might be of interest but which don't make it into an actual email.
The other advantage of Facebook is that when you share or like BUDS posts the fact that you've done that is shared with your friends, which gives us increased exposure and reaches people we would not otherwise reach through the website or email.
BUDS on Twitter: @bbyulti
If you're on Twitter you might want to follow @bbyulti which gets the most timely updates with respect to field locations, game reminders and upcoming events. Again, you'll get updates and information which is not distributed by email, although it should be visible on the BUDS website for those of you who don't use Twitter or choose not to follow.
Elimination 8s - July 2nd, 2012
Rob Taylor is one of the Tournament Directors this year (an event closely associated with the aforementioned Art Hawkins) and he's invited Burnaby to put in a team, he's even volunteered to be the point of contact coordinating such a team. So if you're interested please let Rob know. More information can be found in this blog post: Elimination 8s - July 2nd, 2012.
Burnaby Club Nights 2012 (Disc Golf)
If you're interested in getting in some Disc Golf this summer, there are a couple of organized options being run through BUDS by the Burnaby Disc Golf Club.
On Tuesday nights you can play doubles (Ace Pot currently $100), current start time is about 5:45pm.
On Thurday nights you can participate in Casual Club Nights which might start as early as 5pm, and is a more casual environment. Playing for tags or just for fun is encouraged.
For more information on both, check out the blog post: Burnaby Club Nights 2012 (Disc Golf)
Ace Race 2012
There will be an Ace Race in Burnaby in 2012, which is the longest running Ace Race event in BC. This year I'm looking for some volunteers to help coordinate and run the event, so if you're interested let me know. An actual date for the event has not been determined as of yet, so all we can say is that it will take place sometime in August, September or October.
Further information and pre-registration details will be forthcoming. It is a fun, family friendly event, no previous experience required.
